The current Omaha Metro Conference logo has been in place for over 30 years, but this year the conference decided to take on a fresh face.
They chose to have a metro wide competition for high school students in graphic design classes to create the new logo. Many students throughout the metro area were able to make logos using computer software and enter them in the competition, in hopes of their logo being chosen. Senior Natasha Arritt was one of the students who entered her logo in the competition through Westside’s graphic design class.
“They narrowed it down to finalists and then had us do some adjustments. Another girl and I both won and got to combine our logo. It will be seen on gym floors, coats and hats and things like that,” Arritt said.
Along with Arritt’s logo being the new face of the conference, she was also awarded $250. This is a very high honor considering that Arritt created the logo with not much experience.
“This was at the beginning of the semester so we were all very new to the software we were using. We spent 2 weeks on them in the beginning and the finalists had to make adjustments later on.”
Although Arritt has saved most of the money, she had one thing in mind when she was awarded it.
“The first thing I bought were doughnuts for my graphic design class. We all entered, so why not all get rewarded.”
The logo Arritt created in her high school graphic design class will now be the cover of the Omaha metro conference for at least the next 10 years.
