In this day and age it is not uncommon to see photos of any humorous or ridiculous item posted on the internet, even if this item is a receipt with a tip amount written on it. Earlier this week, a pizza delivery guy was given an order of 85 pizzas to deliver to one house. With 85 pizzas, the total rose to over $1400. The delivery guy was probably expecting an outrageous tip but instead received a mere $10.
Of course, this insanity had to be posted to some social networking site for others to talk about. More and more receipts with a rude comment or a low tip are being shown to the public when really, these things are private especially when the customer’s signature is not concealed. Tips can suck. I know because I used to be a waitress at a small restaurant. There are always customers that will give a generous tip and there are always customers who do not tip or tip very poorly. It happens! Sure it can ruin a day and yes waiters and waitresses get paid very little in hourly wage (around $2.13 an hour) because of the income from tips, so poor tips make life difficult. But I just do not understand why people feel the need to post a photo of the poor tips they receive. Honestly if I got a poor tip or no tip, I wouldn’t want other people knowing about it because it makes me look like a poor waitress! Maybe it is the neediness of our modern society to feel important through social media that drives us to post what should be private matters.
