As you all know, the Grammy Awards were held on Sunday Feb. 10, with a killer lineup of performing artists, including the Black Keys, Frank Ocean, Rihanna, and some Marleys. However, one of the performers specifically stood out to me with a jaw-dropping act. No, it was not Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together”, but it was indeed the old White Stripes frontman, Jack White.
After recently releasing his solo album, Blunderbuss, White took the stage at the Grammys with a modest set and a decent amount of instruments accompanying him. He started his performance with the song “Love Interruption” which is a slow, beautifully written song. It was his second song, though, that made the crowd roar and my jaw drop. When he cued his drummer and released his guitar, White took the audience back to what seemed close to a 70’s rock, Led Zeppelin performance playing “Freedom At 21” off his new album. His mastery of guitar and ability to melt faces was evident throughout the whole set. Wiz Khalifa was seen standing in the aisle after the performance with fists in the air.
Jack White was very deserving of his Grammy nominations and performance spot, unlike some of the other musicians, in my opinion. He directly followed the indie band, The Lumineers, and basically gave them a lesson on how to perform such a big awards show.
His bedazzled suit was also one of the best pieces of clothing I’ve ever seen. Way to go, Jack.
Blunderbuss can be found on iTunes here.
