Every year over 100 million people tune in worldwide for arguably the biggest sporting event of the year; the Super Bowl. This year, for the 47th annual Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens faced off at the SuperDome in New Orleans. However, the Super Bowl never really seems to be about the football anymore.
Whether it is the extravagant commercials or half time performances, the football aspect of the Super Bowl seems to be at the bottom of the list of concerns surrounding its excitement. For example, Yahoo! placed three stories on its website on January 31 regarding the Super Bowl, but not one of them was actually about the football game or players. One story was about a Baltimore cheerleader not aloud to cheer at the Super Bowl because she gained a pound and another was about Beyonce and what she would be performing at half time.
Personally, I have always paid attention to and watched football during the regular season and I like the hype that the Superbowl causes, but I wish people would pay more attention to the actual game and the players rather than the advertisements and entertainment. These football players work so hard all year to even qualify for this opportunity and it seems like they don’t get as much recognition as they should.
