Two years after the release of The Strokes fourth LP “Angles”, the band has come out of hiding and announced big news for music lovers. What was initially rumored to be called “All The Time”, a new song has emerged from the Strokes upcoming album, giving fans a taste of what’s to come. The song is actually called “One Way Trigger” and has an upbeat tempo along with synths, a hidden acoustic guitar, and a surprising falsetto note from frontman Julian Casablancas.
Many fans are enjoying the new pop/electronic/synth band, but for long-time Strokes fans like myself, you can’t help but to be a little disappointed in the change of style. Coming from pure rock ‘n’ roll songs like “Someday”, “You Only Live Once”, and “Reptilia”, the fourth album and new release are a big and controversial change. The old material allows for multiple listens without regret, while the new songs are at first very catchy, but seem to get old after the first few listens.
Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoy The Strokes and will always classify them as one of my favorite bands, but I can’t help but to wonder how today’s music generation has influenced them as a group. All the more, I look forward to seeing what they bring to the table in this next album as well as albums to come.
