This is Prep week. A rivalry with much history and tradition is making its annual return.

The Warrior football team will walk into the big game undefeated at 4-0 and are ranked #8 in Class A. The Junior Jays are 3-1 with a 42-21 loss to Lincoln High yet are ranked #7. The two teams will go to battle on Thursday, September 20th at 7 p.m. The game will be located at Burke High School.

Tight end and linebacker Nick Connelly said the game means a lot to the Westside community.

“Prep week means everything to my teammates and I. The reason being is that Prep is our main rival and it’s probably the biggest game of the year,” Connelly said.

In the last five years, both Westside and Prep have had good moments in the rivalry. Westside’s moments include the 2013 season when Westside won against the Junior Jays twice in one season as they beat them in both the regular season and the playoffs. Another Westside accomplishment was the 2015 season when Westside defeated Prep 41-0. However, Creighton Prep has now beaten the Warriors two straight seasons. Senior Joe Stegman said he has a plan to put the momentum back on the Warriors’ side.

“It all starts with good preparation and practice, we gotta be focused up and study film” Stegman said.

Since 2003, the series is tied at eight wins apiece. In that time period, neither team has picked up three straight wins. If the weather permits, they will renew the rivalry on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Omaha Burke. The game can be seen on Yurview or streamed for free on their website.
