In September 2024, Emile Mosseri released a sneak of his next album, “trying to be born”. The album will be released in February 2025. Ever since listening to his soundtrack for the movie “Minari”, I have been a huge fan of Emile Mosseri’s music. I’d never listened to his personal releases before, so I was super intrigued to give the single a listen.
Mosseri’s release, “don’t fall back so easily”, consists of three songs. The first track, “don’t fall back so easily”, starts with an enchanting and slow feel. His whispering vocals are simple but very beautiful. I was really surprised by this song because it was very different from the other music I have listened to from Mosseri. The style of this song reminded me a lot of Beach House or The Walters, which I enjoyed a lot.
The next track, once in a while, was honestly pretty similar to the song prior. It was slow and, again, enchanting. I felt pretty bored. The lyrics repeated over and over again. I didn’t feel much build up or anything during this song. It was just kind of bland for two minutes. However, I really enjoyed the distorted guitar that came in a few times, and the break that happened at the end of the song.
The final song, wasting your love, was a pleasant change. It was a little bit more upbeat and exciting. I felt fresh and summery while listening. The simple bassline and drum beat were super effective and bright. The change in this track was very nice after the last two super similar songs. I really enjoyed this one and added it to some playlists.
I didn’t really know what to expect when diving into Emile Mosseri’s single. I was somewhat happy with what I heard. It was a nice peak at his next album, but the first two songs just sounded too similar. However, the beauty of the simplicity and colors in this album was really nice. I would give “don’t fall back so easily” a 3.5/5 stars and will definitely give trying to be born a listen in February.
