Girls Wrestling team comes back from Iowa

Last weekend the girls wrestling team took on many matches in Iowa. Coach Bob Mulligan feels that the girls did fairly well.

“Overall I am very pleased, we finished in the top 10 of a very tough tournament and all of our girls won at least one match,” Mulligan said.

Senior Regan Rosseter did exceptionally well.

“Regan beat an Iowa State Finalist and an Iowa State Champion on route to her championship,” Mulligan said.

Rosseter had tough competition but she battled well.

“The matches were intense, I had 2 #1 ranked girls from Iowa. One weighed at 130 and the other one was at 135. I had a couple of nationally ranked girls in my bracket. I would say the hardest match was my semi finals as I had wrestled that girl at a national tournament a month prior,” Rosseter said.

Junior Piper Zatechka had a difficult weekend on the mats.

I would describe the matches from last weekend as being very tough. We were wrestling girls from multiple different states, many of them were state champions or placers in their own states,”  Zatecka said.

Heading into this weekend all of the girls are holding their heads high. Rosseter is reaching for success as she prepares for her next match.

“My mindset is I just take one match at a time, whoever steps out on that mat and that line I just do what I love to do.  I don’t look at my brackets so just going out there on the mat not having those nerves of ‘oh, this girl is really good.’ I just go out there and wrestle. All I think about is that it is just me, my coaches and my opponent,” Rosseter said.

Zoey Barber is also on the wrestling team and has a positive mindset for the upcoming weekend.

I think my mindset is more of me just trying to prepare myself for the next match or tournament that is coming and not stressing on winning because that doesn’t really matter to me. A win is a win, a loss is a loss,” Barber said. “For my next tournament I will definitely be more positive on how I wrestle and how I’m eating before the competition.”

Mulligan is being open minded headed into the weekend.

Our mindset is just hard work, do the little things right and let things play out how they should,” Mulligan said.
