Senior Marie Mathews and Junior Jay Bridgeman go up for a loose ball of the board. The Warriors took the win against the Central Eagles 60-52.

While Westside swimming may have gotten a weekend off of swim meets, other teams at Westside had a weekend full of competition. Check out below to see how each of Westside’s teams did.

Show Choir:
All three of Westside’s show choirs headed down to Lincoln Southwest to compete in the Lincoln Showdown Show Choir competition. ATSC, SI and Warrior Express all placed first in their respective divisions.

“It was our first win so it was a big jump for us to reach the next step — it was a jump in the right direction,” ATSC member senior David Atwell said. “We had a week off so we spent the whole week working and hard and correcting all our errors. That really helped us for this weekend.”

SI did not only win its division, but it was able to place sixth overall in finals.

“It was pretty awesome that we made finals,” SI member senior Hannah Budwig said. “I almost passed out because I was so excited. It was so great coming out of competition. Everyone truly did their best.”

Basketball:

All levels of basketball had a full weekend. Boys varsity faced the No. 1 Omaha Central and No. 3 Omaha South. It won 58-51 versus Omaha Central and lost 58-43 to Omaha South.

“From the beginning we thought we were going to win,” varsity starter senior Michael Herrmann said. “We thought we played together and played as a team playing the way we can. We were confident and that had a big part in [our win Friday]. We were not afraid because the name on their jersey said Central.”

The girls won out this weekend. Friday, the girls team beat Central 60-52, and Saturday it won in overtime, 76-71 versus Omaha South.

“We were motivated because of our previous losses and we knew that if we finished the rest of the season [with wins] we would [be in] a good place to host districts,” varsity starter junior Jay Bridgman said.

Younger basketball teams at Westside also had a good weekend. Their scores are below:
Junior varsity boys vss Omaha South: Loss
Reserve boys vs. Omaha South: Win
Reserve girls vs. Fremont: Win
Reserve girls vs. North East: Loss
Freshman girls vs. Omaha South: Win

Wrestling: Junior varsity wrestling was at Bellevue East this weekend and freshman wrestling was at Millard South. Junior varsity boys took fifth place.
