Owen Wright
Senior punter Owen Wright is committed to Midland University. After his four years at Westside he owes a lot of gratitude to his parents and teammates.
“I want to give thanks to my parents for everything they did in my life to help me get to this point,” Wright said. “As well as my coaches and teammates for pushing me to be to my best potential.”
After being offered a spot on the team he is very thankful for the chance to play.
“I am super excited for this next opportunity,” Wright said.
His Favorite memories on the team were with his peers and playing on Friday nights.
“My favorite memory was with my teammates and being at games, I will miss being at Westside,”
Zoey Barber-
Senior Zoey Barber just signed to Iowa Central college and is looking forward to the positive culture on the team.
“I picked this college because of the culture and the positive culture,” Barber said.
Zoey owes many thanks to her sister Macy Barber. They have both been wrestling together for as long as they can remember.
I would like to thank my sister Macy, and how she has helped push me through the hard times,” Barber said.
One of her favorite memories was when a fellow teammate got sidetracked and lost in a gas station while the team was traveling.
“My favorite memory was when we were on the bus and Ierland got lost in a gas station,” Barber said.
Connor Wane-
Senior Connor Wane is committed to Wayne State College to play football. He is very excited for the team and its culture.
“I am excited for the culture up there,” Wane said.
After having a strong season as a Warrior, Wane has many thanks to give to his family and teammates.
“I would like to thank my family for always being there for me,” Wane said. “I would also like to thank my teammates for pushing me to be my best.”
Wane shared his favorite memory from Memorial stadium at the state championship in 2023.
“My favorite memory is the state championship we won last year,” Wane said.
Jordyn Shields-
Senior Jordyn Shields will be attending Iowa Western community college and will play Bowling. She is thankful for many but most importantly she showed thanks to her family.
“I would like to thank my family for helping me get to where I am,” Shields said.
After a long career of bowling for Westside, Shields showed her father lots of gratitude for helping her find bowling and helping her along the way.
“I also want to thank my dad for helping coaching me throughout my life and pushing me to be better,” Shields said.
Keynan Cotton-
Kenyan cotton will be attending Fresno State next fall to play football . Along with this, he will be studying social marketing and continuing to work hard
“One of reason I chose Fresno State I believe in what coaches were building down there it’s California I would rather be there then Nebraska,” Cotton said.
There are many people who got cotton pointed to today that’s including his family, coaches teammates and the trio.
“I would like thank my parents for all their sacrifices and thank coaches and teammates for pushing me everyday,” Cotton said.
Jack Tarr-
Jack Tarr will be attending midland next fall to play football and will also be studying education with a coaching minor.
“I was a looking at lot of schools but midland stuck out to him because it felt like he was wanted there,” Tarr said.
Tarr owes a lot of thanks to his family for helping him get to where he is today.
“ I wanted thank my parents and my aunt and grandparents for helping me and pushing me for however every long I been playing football,” Tarr said.
A thing Tarr will miss is his family on the field.
“One thing I will miss about Westside is not seeing the guys I played football with for 4 plus years”
Jace Ostermyer-
Jace Ostermyer was unable to attend Westside’s signing day due to an illness, but still signed his letter to Bemidji State University in Minnesota. Ostermyer was disappointed he couldn’t attend but is still excited to be Beaver.
“I chose Bemidji State because of the facilities and coaching staff,” Ostermyer said.
Dalonte Dixon.
Dalonte Dixon was one of two Warriors to sign to Wayne State for football. Dixon transferred to Westside from Millard South before this season, but is still very grateful for his time as a Warrior.
“Wayne State was different from every other campus I visited and I fell in love with it,” Dixon said. “I want to thank my mom, and my stepdad for coming into my life and changing it for the better. When I transferred into Westside everyone accepted me with open arms, and i’m going to remember that.”
Jack Boerner-
Jack Boerner signed with Swarthmore College for Swimming. Boerner holds the second-fastest time in the state for the 100 freestyle at 47.51seconds and the third-fastest time in the state for the 200-yard freestyle at 1:43.20. Additionally, his 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay groups hold the first and second fastest times respectively.
“I really enjoyed how they made me feel right at home even though I was new,” Boerner said. “It was a really welcoming environment so I’m excited to be there for the next four years.”
AJ Pease-
AJ Pease became the first Warrior to ever sign under a fishing scholarship. Pease sign with Drury University. He finished fourth at state last season, and hopes he can improve on that this spring.
“I have to say a massive thank you, especially to my parents for all their support throughout all the years, and my dad for teaching me how to bass fish years ago,” Pease said. “My favorite memory is going to state with my buddy Cole.”
Piper Zatechka –
Piper Zatechka will continue her Wrestling and Academic career at Lehigh University. Zatechka has been wrestling for all four years of highschool and is excited for the next chapter into college. Zatechka chose Lehigh for the next level because of the culture. “I can’t wait to attend Lehigh because of the culture of the program and the environment on campus,” Zatechka said “Within the community it was welcoming and inviting.” She will leave a strong wrestling team at, but has really enjoyed her time at westside. Her favorite memory on the team was winning state her junior year. “My favorite memory here was winning state with my team, that moment was so exciting” Zatechka said. She will definitely miss the team next year, but can’t wait to see what they accomplish after she leaves.
Aubrie Mcdonald –
next level in college. She will really miss Westside, and all the support from her teammates and coaches here. “The culture here at Westside is something that I’ll really miss,” Mcdonald said, “No matter what there is always someone there supporting you, with a smile or even a funny joke.” Mcdonald will continue her athletic career at Nebraska Wesleyan University, in Lincoln Nebraska. Mcdonald’s parents, teammates and coaches helped her get this far to be able to compete in college. They were always there for her when she was doubting herself. “I want to thank my coaches and teammates for always believing in me whenever I doubted myself and always supporting me,” Mcdonald said. Westside Track and Field has been a big part of Aubrie’s life but it is on to the next level for her.
Andy Xiao – Soccer
- Andy Xiao will be attending Pomona College in Claremont, California next fall. He will be playing going to the next level for his athletic career in soccer. “I chose Pomona because I love the campus,”Xiao said “Academically and Athletically I think it was the best fit for me, but also getting to be in southern california is a plus.” Going to the next level takes a lot of support, andXiao always received that from everyone around him, especially his dad. “I want to thank my dad for always being my number one supporter, for taking me across the country just to be able to play soccer,”Xiao said, “I’d also like to thank my teammates for always supporting me, Coach Mike Dean for believing me and letting me come to the westside.” Westside soccer helped Xiao get to be the athlete he is today. “My favorite memory of westside soccer was my freshman year when we made it to state, it was just a surreal experience,” Xiao said.
