Senior swimmer Nate Germonprez has made a name for himself during his swimming career at Westside High School. The University of Texas commit looks to compete in the NSAA State Swim meet starting on Friday, Feb. 24. Germonprez reflected on his season prior to the big meet.

“The season so far has gone pretty well,” Germonprez  said. “I’ve had some solid training which is all I can really ask for and now we’ll see how that fairs going into the championship meets.”

Germonprez has been known for his speedy tactics in the pool, being the fastest swimmer in multiple categories such as the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and the 100 backstroke. The four-time gold medalist looked back over the past few weeks and decided what he needs to do to continue making history.

“We started resting around a week ago,”  Germonprez said. “We’ve started cutting back weights to put more emphasis on the actual swimming aspect of the sport rather than the power and lifting aspect.”

Germonprez will compete in the 100 and 200 freestyle events at the state meet. He will defend his title in the 200 freestyle, where he set the meet record with a time of 1:35.73. Germonprez has made an impact on this Westside swim team inside and outside of the pool. He looks forward to his upcoming meet, especially his  relays..

“I’m looking forward to having my last two relays with the guys,” Germonprez said. “I think we have some solid chances this year at performing well in the relays and I’ll use that to get myself and the guys hyped up for the end of the season.”

The boys swimming preliminaries are scheduled for Friday, Feb.24 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The finals are set for Saturday, Feb. 25, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Watch the Westside swim team compete for a shot at a state title as they take the road to Lincoln, where they will compete against the best teams in the state.
