The Westside girls swim and dive senior night was a blast for the Warriors this past week, with many individuals getting recognized for their dedication to the program.
“It felt nice to be recognized for all of the hard work,” senior Cat Fonda said. “Everyone has put in so much time and effort over the past four years.”
Senior Elena Pospishil’s favorite part of senior night was being able to cheer on and celebrate her teammates.
“My favorite part of senior night is definitely when I got to cheer on my other seniors that were walking out because just like hearing their name that was kinda so surreal in the moment,” Pospishil said.
One of the best parts about being an athlete at Westside does not always have to do with the actual sport itself but the relationships and memories you make.
“I have gotten so many friends from Westside and it has been such a great community from the swim team so that’s really helped me for the past four years,” Fonda said.
With the pool still being under construction at Westside, the Warriors had to have their senior night at Millard North high school.
“It was kind of odd having senior night at Millard North because it was a blue pool,” Pospishil said. “And it was just a different situation than we had grown accustomed to at our westside pool. But then again, I am very grateful for them being able to host it because I am glad we got a senior night.”
“Normally for senior night we have baby pictures on the walls and there is music playing. So it was different to just have to walk out and everyone’s names be called,” Fonda said.
Even though the Warriors still don’t have a pool this year, they made the most of their situation and always looked at the glass as half full.
“This season has been different because everyone has to carpool to practice now,” Fonda said.“I think it’s kind of been fun though. Everyone is riding with each other and kind of getting to bond that way.”
The Westside swim program has created many great athletes and young adults for many years and will continue to do the same for years to come.
“I think swimming for Westside has definitely prepared me, especially because I’m going to swim in college,” Pospishil said. “So I will definitely take that next step into consideration with the training I have got at Westside. It also has prepared me mentally.”
With state swimming coming up, the Warriors are doing everything they can to defend their state title once again.
“We are definitely shooting for first,” Fonda said. “Like Andy said this year we are kind of the hunted, everyone is coming for us. So it means a lot to just keep that title.”
