Regan Rosseter’s Confidence Shows in First Place Finish

Westside girls wrestler Regan Rosseter competed in her first all-girls tournament on Dec. 30 at Winnebago High School. Rosseter would go 4-0 with three third period wins and a first-place finish in the tournament. Rosseter prefers to compete in the all-girl tournaments as she continues to build confidence. She feels more prepared for these tournaments as she usually wrestles boys.

“I think the season has been good, with that being my first girl tournament. I think I have learned from wrestling boys to help me wrestle girls,” Rosseter said. “When I wrestled the boys I didn’t have enough confidence in myself like I do when I wrestle girls.”

Rosseter has her sights set on a first-place win whenever she steps on the mat. Having faith in herself in tournaments is what makes her different from other wrestlers.

“I was confident in myself and I knew that I needed to work on more of my technique than use my strength,” she said.

Rosseter’s outstanding confidence has been a big reason for her big wins this season. She used the tactics she knew would work for her and it has allowed her to take down some of the top girls wrestlers in the nation. Up against another top wrestler, Rosseter never had a doubt she could win.

“I went out there with confidence knowing that she was undefeated. I just went out there knowing I can win, I was just using my technique and not using as much muscle,” Rosseter said. “I look forward to being the first-ever girl to win a state title for westside. I want to get first place at all the girl tournaments.”

Rosseters goals and her belief herself will guide her to be a better wrestler throughout the season. Others around Regan have also realized how much she believes in herself.

“Her confidence has been tremendous. Whenever she puts her foot on the line, she truly believes she is going to win. No matter who is across from her boy or girl,” coach Bob Mulligan said. “It also translates to the way she practices. Since she is the only girl on the team she has to practice with the varsity boys, and if it wasn’t for her long hair you would never think she was out of place,”

Rosseters goals have been her top prize since the start of the year and Rosseter plans to keep practicing hard and push herself to be able to achieve her goals while the Warriors look to continue to keep their sights set on Rosseter this season.
