The Westside boys swimming team has yet to be defeated in dual action this season.

On Tuesday January 28, the Westside girls and boys varsity swimming teams competed against Elkhorn/Elkhorn South at Elkhorn Swim Complex. The Westside girls varsity team has been good this season, only losing one meet. The boys varsity team, however, is undefeated and winning by an average of 61.7 points. Junior Lauren Kugler said that the teams knew that the Elkhorn teams would be good, but they trusted what they have been doing the whole season to prepare for meets, so they kept it the same.

“Elkhorn has always been really good and they are ranked near the top and they have a huge team,” Junior Lauren Kugler says. “We have been on a special process where everyone rests a different amount of days to get ready for meets. This helped most of our swimmers get ready for this meet specifically.”

The Westside boys varsity team started out strong from the beginning and did not slow down. They were able to win most of the events, which gave them a 109-76 win. The Westside girls varsity team, however, were not able to be as dominant, losing 123-62. Sophomore Connor Anderson credits the win to the coaches and the hard work during practices.

“We have great coaches who let us know how to ‘fix’ our stroke, or in other words help us to be more streamlined in the water. We also have a lot of guys who work very hard in the weight room and in the water,” Anderson said.
