Westside Swimmers Split Dual with Marian, Creighton Prep
On Tuesday, January 21, the Westside girls and boys varsity swimming teams hosted the Marian Crusaders and the Creighton Prep Jr. Jays. Coming into this matchup, both of the Westside teams were undefeated, and they were hoping to keep it that way. Prior to the meet, junior Elizabeth Harding said the key was to keep a steady pace.
“For the dual, we will be resting just a little bit to recover from our last dual, but we will keep staying focused to beat our rivals,” Harding said.
The Marian Crusaders and Creighton Prep Jr. Jats were also coming into the meet undefeated in duals, and they have won multiple tournaments. Westside’s girls team loss 114-68, while the boys won in a close one by a 95-91 score against Creighton Prep. Freshman Kaden Guman attributed the boys’ success to hard work.
“I think we have been doing so well because our coaches definitely train us really hard,” Guzman said. “We practice almost every single day and each practice is preparation for our meets. We have boys who are super good, so we can put people in different events. It’s not just one event that we are good at; we’re good in multiple events giving us chances points in every event.”
Westside will return to the pool on Tuesday, January 28 at Elkhorn/Elkhorn South.
