SEASON PREVIEW: Westside Diving Looks Ahead to Season
A new winter sports season is upon us. This means another diving season for several students at Westside High School. Coach Katie, as referred to by multiple divers, said she is very excited for the season.
“I look forward to every year. Every season is different and brings different challenges,” Katie said. “We have a large group of kids interested in diving, which is unusual. Diving is typically a small number sport because it is so specialized.”
Katie said that with so many talented divers back, it will make practices great and lead to great competitions. It will push the divers to challenge each other and try to be the best. It will make them even that much better.
“Within team competition will be tough, but that is ultimately a good thing, because it pushes them all to work harder. It will be interesting to see how things play out and how each diver develops.”
The Warriors have nine returning divers for this upcoming season. That includes 5 boys and 4 girls.
“Our Seniors are David Goodwin, Bodie Harrell, Spencer Schneiderman and Cal Hoffman. Each of them came to diving with with very little diving experience,” Katie said. “They each have worked hard, and stuck with it. Ian Andress (junior) is our other returning state qualifier. Ian has a strong gymnastics background which transfers well to diving.”
Westside will begin their season with a meet against Gretna at home on Thursday, December 5, 2019.
