Girls Golf Places Second, Qualifies for Second Straight State Tournament
With mild winds blowing and a trip to the NSAA Class A Girls Golf Championships on the line, the Westside girls golf team competed at Awarii Dunes on Monday.
While three Warriors medaled in the NSAA District A-1 Tournament, sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna placed second with a score of 72, which was her ninth top two finish this season. She said she had a good round on Monday.
“I had a great front nine of 33, and a few shots on the back nine that got away from me,” Hanna said. “But [I] hung in there in the 15-20 mph winds and shot an even par 72.”
Along with Hanna’s second place finish, Portia Lenczowski placed sixth with a score of 91, and Claire Bonnett placed eighth with a score of 92. The team placed second overall in the district tournament, which qualified them for their second straight NSAA Class A Girls Golf Championships. Hanna said that they are excited for the opportunity.
“It was great to see the team finish strong being the A-1 District Runner-ups,” Hanna said. “We are looking forward to this last week of practice before we head down to State!”
Westside will compete at Norfolk Country Club on Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
