Westside Swim and Dive Prepares for State Meet
The girls and boys swim team have been putting in hours of work per day the entire season. Now it is their opportunity to display their skill and end the season strong at the state meets. The meets start for the swimmers on Friday, February 21 in Lincoln, Nebraska, with the girls at 9:00 a.m..
For the seniors on both the swim teams this is much more than just a meet. It is their last meet of their swim careers at Westside. Jackson Hanus is a senior on the boys team and he explained his thoughts on this.
“I feel sad because I’ve been all three years and this will be my last swim meet ever. I’ve put a lot of time into the sport and this my last meet. It means a lot,” Hanus said.
Hanus hopes to end his career on a high note as says he hopes for his team to win state.
“Our goals for the meet are obviously to win. Like any team there, we want to win state. But we also want to do our best and have fun,” Hanus said.
Not only does Hanus and the team hope to do well it seems they are feeling confident.
“We feel good about swimming at the state meet. We have been resting up and we are ready to swim fast,” Hanus said.
Sophomore Koby Bretz finished third in the diving competition on Thursday to earn the first medal of the weekend for the Warriors with a score of 462.
