Boys diving finds initial success at meets
Whether it be from juniors David Goodwin, Bodie Harrell, or sophomore Koby Bretz, boys diving has had a very successful year so far. Girls diving has also been performing well as Freshmen Gretchen Nelson finished second overall for girls diving at the Millard North Dual.
At the Millard North Dual, boys diving had a clean sweep of the podium. Koby Bretz finished first and qualified for state in the process scoring a 445.45. Bodie Harrell came in second overall finishing with a score of 312.95 also qualifying for state, and David Goodwin finished third tallying a score of 290.9. In addition to the top finishers, Junior Spencer Schneiderman finished fifth racking up 164.75 points.
Junior David Goodwin was just a mere ten points from qualifying and believes he will qualify very soon.
“Diving is weird, you can perform dive’s well and still not get the score you want so it’s frustrating but I hope to qualify soon,” Goodwin said.
While qualification hasn’t came specifically for Goodwin yet, he is still happy that the team has been doing well.
“It’s a real confidence boost for all of us, when it comes to other schools we’re competing at a high level and it shows that we have a real chance to make something happen this year,” junior David Goodwin said.
Given their sweep of the podium and early success it’s likely to believe that diving will continue on their path to state this year, and at their next meet.
