Preview: Girls Golf to Take on State Tournament in Norfolk
On Monday, October 8th, the varsity girls golf team will travel to Norfolk Country Club to play in the Class A state girls golf meet. This will be their second visit to Norfolk this season, as they also competed there on September 13th. The team will play the first 18 holes on Monday, and the second 18 on Tuesday. Westside was able to qualify for the state meet as a team for the first time since 2015 when they placed 3rd overall.
This will be senior Lilli Fogland’s third and final trip to the state tournament as she qualified with the team in 2015, individually last season, and this season’s appearance. Last season, Fogland finished 11th overall.
All eyes will be on freshman Kaitlyn Hanna, as she had a first place individual finish in the district tournament on October 1st. She will look to fend off fellow freshman Kate Strickland of Lincoln Southwest, who tied with her at districts with a 76.
The team has not won the state championship since 1990. Although it seems unlikely that the team finishes first overall this season, it should be possible in the near future given the Warriors talented youth.
