PREVIEW: Excellence in Design Show 2016

The Excellence in Design Art and Fashion Show, hosted in Westside High School’s Entryway, will be taken place on May 4 2016. The event gives any seniors that have taken a drawing and painting, photography, pottery, or fashion class throughout their years at Westside a chance to showcase their best art pieces.

Seniors choose their 10 best art pieces form any of the art classes they have taken in past years to submit for the show. There is a Best in Show, first, second and third place awards given to four students, along with multiple honorable mention winners. Senior Melissa Rana will be participating in the show and has taken Art Foundations, Drawing & Painting, AP 2D Portfolio, Fashion, and Photography.

“It’s a good way to end the year for the art family. Also, it’s cool to see all types of art just laid out. This is a good way to give appreciation to all the hard work we [art students] have done throughout the years,” Rana said.

Westside’s Art Department hosts the show every year, with hopes to encourage students to get involved within the department, no matter what the class may be.

“If you like art or just want to try it out, I would definitely recommend [taking an art class]. It’s a good way to explore what you would be good at or like,” Rana said. “Also, you get to hang out in the art room, which is pretty chill.”
