Week in Review 2/22-2/29

Girls Swimming

Last week, the girls swim team competed in the state meet at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. The team placed seventh overall with great individual performances to get there. The day started with the 200 yard medley relay placing seventh. The team consisted of senior Elizabeth Amato-Hanner, junior Peyton Stover, freshman Shay Snow and senior Samantha Baker. The team also had solid individual finishes from freshman Laina Bayles in the 500 yard free placing seventh, and Amato-Hanner placing second in the 100 yard fly and winning the 100 yard back, becoming a state champion once again.

Boys Swimming

The boys swim team competed at state as well, placing 23rd overall. Individually, sophomore Stephen Amato-Hanner placed 12th in the 200 yard individual medley, freshman Jackson Hanus placed 13th in the 500 yard freestyle, junior Alexander Bayles placed 12th in the 100 yard breast and the 200 yard medley relay team consisting of seniors Nick Gross, Ben Kerby, Schmidt and Bayles placed 15th.

Girls Basketball

The girls had their first district playoff game on Tuesday against Omaha Central. The team came out strong and kept their lead to win the game 68-41. The girls then traveled to Lincoln to play the number one seed in their division, Lincoln East. Although the girls lost the game 55-42, they captured the wildcard and will be playing in their first state playoff game Thursday Feb. 29 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The game will be at 8:45 p.m. against Millard West.

Boys Basketball

The boys had their first district playoff game on Saturday against Omaha Burke. After a tough fight, the boys unfortunately lost 69-61 and were at too low of a seed to get the wild card. Great season boys basketball!

Intramural Basketball

Possibly the biggest event on the basketball court this past weekend was the intramural basketball tournament. Four teams within the league competed to win the glory of intramural champion. The championship game, which took place at 12:50Sunday afternoon, saw Team Phillips against Team Kent. The two battled all 30 minutes of allotted game time but Team Phillips came out on top with a final score of 42-40. The game was an unusually close game for the intramural league, forcing Team Phillips to knock down clutch free throws down the stretch. Juniors Trevor Mumford and Milo Greder both had huge games for the team. Congrats Team Phillips!
