Week in Review 2/8-2/16

Lacrosse

This past Saturday and Sunday the Westside Lacrosse team participated in the Clash of the Cook tournament in Lincoln. The pre-season tournament took place at the Cook Pavilion where all of the teams in the state competed. The team played Millard West, Burke, Lincoln, and Millard North. Westside finished in 4th place, this is the best they’ve scored in the tournament yet.

Hockey

Westside hockey played a game on Wednesday against Millard West which they won 7-0. The team also participated in the annual Omaha High School All-Star Game this past weekend. The top players from the league are selected to play. The players representing Westside were seniors Alec Vanderloo and Cam Hickey, juniors Owen Morrow and Jacob Miller, along with sophomore Mike Hickey.

Show Choir

On Saturday, the show choirs competed in the Elkhorn Crystal cup competition. Warrior Express placed second in the prep division, Simply Irresistible placed second in the women’s division and ATSC was grand champions along with best vocals, choreography and band.

Wrestling

The wrestling team competed in the district meet on Saturday. The team had three wrestlers place in the top three to move on to the state tournament. Those wrestlers were sophomore Mickey Wilson, placing third in 152 weight, junior Kobee Brewer placing second in heavyweight and junior Darlando Hill winning the 172 weight. Those three wrestlers will compete at the state meet Thursday Feb. 18. Good luck at state Warriors!

Girls Swimming

On Tuesday, the girls team competed at the Ralston meet. The team won 115-48. To get the big win, the team won multiple events, starting with senior Samantha Baker in the 100 back, freshman Laina Bayles in the 100 fly, senior Elizabeth Amato-Hanner in the 100 breast, junior Grace Becker in the 200 free, freshman Grace Berentson in the 200 individual medley, senior Grace Porter in the 500 free and the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. The teams next meet is the state meet Thursday Feb. 25. Good luck Warriors!

Boys Swimming

The boys team also competed at Ralston, winning 129-33. Individually, the team won many events as well. The day started with a win in the one meter dive from junior Jonas Turman, freshman Trevor Harris in the 100 free, junior Zach McCarty in the 100 fly, sophomore Brennan Bailey in the 100 back, freshman Paul Schmidt in the 200 free, freshman Jackson Hanus in the 200 individual medley, junior Alexander Bayles in the 500 free, along with the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. The team’s next meet is the state meet Thursday Feb. 25. Good luck Warriors!

Girls Basketball

During the long weekend of break, the girls basketball team only had one game Thursday against Lincoln Southwest. Sophomore Quinn Weidemann scored 20 points to help the girls team win 50-33. The teams next game will be Friday at Bellevue West at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Basketball

The boys also only had one game this weekend Thursday night against Lincoln Southwest. Junior Anthony Bratton contributed to 18 points helping the team win 54-43. The boys next game will be Friday at Bellevue West at 7:15 p.m.
