Week in Review Jan. 4-Jan. 11

Boys Swimming

To start off the week in activities, swimming had a meet at Lincoln Southeast. The boys lost 92-77 against Southeast, but had a good showing with victories from junior Alexander Bayles in the 50 free and 100 breast. Also getting points for the team was Paul Schmidt, freshman Jackson Hanus and junior Zack McCarty winning the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 free respectively, along with the 400 free relay. Then on Thursday Jan. 7, the team had another meet at Gretna, where they won 107-65. Almost sweeping the first place spots were senior Ben Kerby in the 100 fly, Schmidt in the 100 breast, senior Ryan Fletcher in the 200 free, sophomore Stephen Amato-Hanner in the 500 free along with the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. The team’s next meet is Jan. 12 against Creighton Prep here at Westside.

Girls Swimming

The girls had a slightly different schedule as the boys this past week with the meets at Lincoln Southeast and Ralston. At Southeast the girls won 96-87 with wins from senior Elizabeth Amato-Hanner in the 100 fly and 100 breast, senior Grace Porter in the 100 back and 100 free and freshman Laina Bayles in the 200 Individual Medley along with the 400 free relay team. At the Ralston RAM relays, the team took third overall. They placed second in the 200 free relay and third in the 400 free relay. The team’s next meet is Jan. 12 against Marian here at Westside.

Wrestling

Wrestling had two meets this week, the first was a triangular against Papillion La-Vista and Thomas Jefferson from Council Bluffs and the second was a dual tournament at Millard West. Against Thomas Jefferson, the team lost the dual and had only one win in Drew Sorrell at the 126 weight. Against Papillion-LaVista the team didn’t fare well, losing every match. Then, on Saturday the team was at Millard West. Their first dual was against DC West, which the team won 54-16. The matches were a bit rougher after that, losing to Lincoln Southwest, Columbus, and Millard West. The team finished eighth overall. Their next meet is metros at Omaha North on Jan. 15.

Girls Basketball

Girls basketball had a strong showing this past week with three basketball games. To start off their week, the team played Bellevue East on Tuesday and defeated them 48-40. On Friday the girls continued their momentum by defeating Omaha North 64-42. To finish off the week the girls played Lincoln Southeast on Saturday and won 70-63. The girls play at Millard North this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Basketball

Boys basketball started off the week with a strong win on Tuesday against Bellevue East by beating them 59-25. On Friday, the boys continued their winning streak by pulling out a win against Omaha North 69-62. To end their week, the basketball team played Lincoln Southeast on Saturday and lost 73-57. The boys play at Millard North this Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Show Choir

The Amazing Technicolor Show Choir (ATSC) had their first competition this weekend in Wisconsin at Viterbo. ATSC won best male vocalist in Jacob Thomas, along with best choreography, and overall grand champion.  ATSC’s next performance will be at Ralston High School for the Ralston Ramageddon Competition on Saturday, January 23.
