Powderpuff victory for seniors complete the senior sweep

The junior and senior girls line up before the snap. The seniors won the game 26-12.

It was cold, wet and more wet at last night’s junior versus senior powderpuff game. One of the biggest downpours of the week didn’t keep the DECA girls off of the field.

The game was jumpstarted by a 50 yard run by senior Bridget Mizener on the basis of a trick play. The seniors snapped the ball and Mizener walked to their sideline complaining of it being the wrong ball. She then turned the corner and picked up a huge gain. Soon after, Mizener ran the ball in for her second touchdown of the game. The seniors went in to halftime leading 14-0.

Halftime yielded a very entertaining fifteen minutes as the junior and senior boys both performed dances. Among the routines were songs such as: Pretty Boy Swag, Hit the Quan, Fergalicious and A Whole New World from Aladin.

Once the entertainment was over, it was back to work for the squads. The second half, which passed much faster than the first due to a five-minute fourth quarter, was much closer than the first. A second half score of 12-12 saw two touchdowns from junior Julia Barger and a touchdown from senior Mariah Tessin and again from Bridget Mizener.

As time expired, the senior sweep was finally complete at the hands of rain-drenched seniors, who put DECA and pride ahead of the joy of being dry to take the powderpuff cake, 26-12.
