Richard Mckeever is an assisted learning teacher, and the head coach of boys track and field as well as an assistant coach of Football. Despite being very busy both during the day and throughout the year in general, he still finds time to maintain his own fitness by working out early each morning.

“I started out as a kid playing sports, and I was interested in playing every sport,” McKeever said.

Despite having an attraction to most physical activites, McKeever found his calling on the football field.

“Football was my best sport. I got a scholarship at University of South Dakota where I played for four years as a running back. That was an early goal in my life to play football at that college level,” McKeever said.

After football McKeever’s life didn’t change, he still wanted to be involved in sports and continue his fitness. For that reason, he turned to lifting weights and running, and has continued for the last 33 years. By working out daily before 6 a.m.

“I do cardio but I try to do lighter cardio, I go on runs, long walks, hikes, I try to take the dog on a long walk, I can do a boxing work out,” McKeever said.

Of course, one can’t maintain such physique without the correct diet. The diet is very important in McKeever’s fitness routine. He focuses on eating fruits and lean meats as well as limiting his sugar intake.

Thankfully, the inner coach of Rick McKeever has several tips to spread the healthy lifestyle.

“They need to be consistent,” McKeever said. “I think everyone should get in the weight room and work on cardio vascular fitness, try to get in a habit of doing it multiple times a week,” McKeever said.

McKeever plans to continue his workouts for time to come, and inspire fitness among the student body.

“[Fitness] is one of my biggest hobbies and my passion, I love being healthy and trying to be the best I can physically,” McKeever said.
