Cabaret night is a time for signing, dancing and good food. This year, Westside’s annual cabaret night show will be held Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m and 7 p.m. This year’s theme is Broadway. The show is put on by Doran Johnson, Westside’s choir director.

“[Cabaret] is a major fundraiser for the vocal music program,” Johnson said. “Rather than sell cookie dough or candles, we put on a big show to raise the funds necessary to keep our program maintaining a certain level of excellence.”

The night starts off with a performance form all of the choirs. It then continues with performances by each of the show choirs and solos performed by seniors and other choir students. The 3 p.m show is featuring seniors Sara Modig, Hosea Briggins, Regan Johnson, Annie Davis, Patrick Sawyer, and Rebecca Erdman. The 7 p.m. show is featuring seniors Kenneth Owens, Morgan Zabel, Connor O’Doherty, Amy Conaway, Kathryn Shehan, Ellie Kroeger, and Rebecca Erdman.

“This is a unique opportunity for us high school students to audition and sing solos,” said senior Ellie Kroeger, who will be singing a solo at the event. “We don’t get to sing in front of people often, and we’re lucky to be able to do it here. It’s bittersweet that it’s the last one, but I plan to take full advantage of it and put on a great show instead of being sad about it.”

Cabaret night at Westside has been a tradition for more than 25 years. Preparation for the night has been a months work of rehearsing the music, selecting solos and preparing the emcees.

Parents play a big role in the preparation for the night as well. Lots of work from the parents goes into putting on the show.

“The parent organizers have been working since school started to handle the details regarding ticket sales, concessions, raffle tickets, partaking, etc,” Johnson Said.

Cost of tickets for student is $5 and cost for adults is $10. Tickets are the same amount at the door.
