Ending the season with a 14-23 record, varsity volleyball lost in the district championship against North Platte in three sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19, last night.
This is the first time in three years the team has made it to the district finals.
The team beat Grand Island in four sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22. It had to win the game to go on to the district championship to determine who would go to the state tournament.
Grand Island started off strong, taking the first set from the Warriors, but the Warriors fought back and beat the Islanders in the next three sets.
The Warriors went on to play North Platte in the championship round of the district tournament.
In the first set, the Warriors were playing the Bulldogs point-for-point in a close match, but lost 25-20.
The next match they didn’t come out as strong. The Bulldogs had a 20-6 lead over the Warriors. Westside fought back and ended the game with only a loss of 25-19.
Into the third set, the warriors put up a good fight following them point for point and ended their season with a 25-19 loss.
“We played a really tough schedule [this season],” varsity volleyball head coach Kim Eymann said. “I think in the long run that pays off. That’s why we were able to make it to the district finals.”
