Boys Soccer Remains Among the Top Teams

The Westside boys varsity soccer team is now in its third week of playing and is proving it is one of the top teams in the state. The Warriors are currently 5-1, and ranked third, after starting the season No. 1, in the state after a March 31 loss to the current No. 1 team Creighton Prep.

In the past week, the team played two games. One of the games was a 5-0 thrashing Bellevue East on Friday, April 4. The goals came from seniors Joe Dahir, Daniel Shonka, and Chase McCann, who had a hat trick in the game.

Its second game in the last week was at home against Millard West April 8. The third-ranked warriors beat the second-ranked Wildcats with a final score of 3-2.

Westside was down 2-1 after the first half before rallying in the second with goals by McCann and a game winner from freshman Hunter Kruse, a volley coming off of a cross from junior Robert Wiseman.

The win brought the team’s record to 5-1  going in to the Metro tournament. The tournament will begin Thursday, April 10 at Westside High School, where the third-seeded Warriors will take on the sixth-seeded Titans from Papillion-La Vista South. The winner will then play Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m. at Norris Middle School.
