To be the best, a team has to beat the best. Tonight, the Westside girls basketball team is taking on one of the best in the state, Bellevue West. Bellevue West was the number one team in the state until they were upset by Benson last friday. Bellevue West rebounded by beating Norfolk the next night.

The Westside team had a different schedule last weekend after a Tuesday night game against Millard North. On Saturday the team also rebounded against North Platte 55-46. Junior Jay Bridgeman and senior Marie Matthews led the team with 13 points each. The team also got a boost from seniors Mallory Thompson and Rachel Kaup who had 9 points and 6 points respectfully.

Bridgeman still leads the team with 13.5 points per game, and Matthews is second with 10.6 points per game. Bridgeman and Rachel still lead in rebounds, and Thompson leads the team with 3.1 assists per game.

For the Warriors to win tonight, they will need good guard play to combat the guards from Bellevue West. Madi Braun and Chloe Akin-Otiko are the leading scorers and will be tough to contain. The Warriors will have their hands full in this match-up, but they could have one advantage, the crowd. It’s spirit night tonight, and the first 250 students get t-shirts. Westside has a home court advantage, and will look to take advantage of it.

Prediction:

Westside Wired predicts the Warriors will lose 2 votes to 1 to Bellevue West: This will be one of the toughest match ups the Warriors face over the entire season. Bellevue West has some of the best guard play, and shooters in the state. For Westside to win Jay Bridgeman and Rachel Kaup will have to have big games, forcing Bellevue West to play bigger than they would like to. Unfortunately the Wired staff sees the Warriors just coming up short tonight.

Westside Wired predicts the Warriors will beat Fremont 3 votes to 0: The Warrior team will be too much to handle for Fremont. The Warriors have a combination of solid guard play and post play, and will overwhelm Fremont on Saturday.
