In the two-day Metro tournament at Omaha North Magnet High School, the Warriors competed in four duals on Friday, and individual weight tournaments on Saturday.

In the duals, the Warriors faced Papillion-LaVista high school first, but lost 61-4. The team then faced Omaha Northwest High School, and got a come from behind win, 42-34. Next, it faced Creighton Preparatory High School, but lost 45-27. For the last dual on Friday, Westside went up against Millard North High School, and again lost 54-24, to finish in 12th place overall.

For the individual tournaments on Saturday, Westside wrestlers were able to turn it around, even with half of the team’s starters injured.

Overall, Westside had four medalists in sophomore Bryce-Confer Wood, who placed eighth in weight class 120, junior Reece Watanabe, who placed eighth in weight class 285, senior Ben Huss, who placed fifth in weight class 160. The best finish for the Warriors came from senior Ismail Hamze with a fourth place finish in weight class 182.

After the tournament, head coach Mike Jernigan had concerns for the season.

“We need to get guys healthy,” Jernigan said. “We only have two of our original starters in our lineup right now. We had a very scattered lineup for Metros, but I am proud of the guys that stepped up from JV and went and wrestled to the best of their abilities.”

The next meet for the Warriors will be the Benson duals at Benson High School tonight.
