In the Warriors’ first playoff win in seven years, the team rolled through Lincoln Southwest with a final score of 35-6. The Warriors started strong, and stayed with it all night.

To start the playoffs right, the Warriors scored a touchdown with 7:56 in the first quarter, off an 11-yard pass from senior Christian Hagan to senior Malek Pittman. Hagan finished the game 9-23 passing for 153 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Next, senior Drew Fitzmorris ran for a 15-yard touchdown with 9:53 left in the second quarter, for the only rushing touchdown of the game.

Then, Hagan kicked a 25-yard field goal to put the Warriors up 24-0 with 2:45 left in the second quarter. Eleven seconds later on the play clock, Hagan threw another touchdown, this time to senior Jamaal Conway-Smith. Following that score, with two seconds left on the clock, Hagan booted in another field goal from 39 yards out, ending the half with Westside leading 27-0.

After the Warriors flurry of scores in the first half, the second half was a slow-paced.

For the Warriors only score of the second half, Hagan threw a 43-yard touchdown strike, his third touchdown throw of the night, to Fitzmorris. Hagan completed a pass to Pittman to convert the two-point conversion, making the score 35-0.

After holding Southwest scoreless for three quarters of football, with 2:29 left in the game the Silver Hawks scored on a 43-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Chase Gobel to receiver Austin Rowlett. The Silver Hawks failed their two-point conversion try, putting the score at 35-6, the final for the game.

With the win, the No. 4 seed Warriors move on to play No. 5 seed Creighton Prep at Westside. The Warriors met the Junior Jays early in the season, and came out with a 14-7 win. Westside head coach Brett Froendt thinks the players are able to win again.

“We’ve just got to prepare to get us ready and get our confidence levels high because Prep’s coming back and it’s tough to play a team a second time, but we’ll take it,” Froendt said.
