October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness this year, the Westside boys varsity tennis team decided to have a pink out during their last home match, against Creighton Prep.

Head coach Kim Gradoville bought the team pink socks, bracelets and bandanas to wear during their matches.

Senior Joe Zanders and his mom shared in the celebration of the pink-out event.

“My mom went and bought pink boas and socks for the other moms watching,” Zanders said.

Local businesses, such as Orange Leaf, also participated in celebrating awareness this month, via coupons that the tennis players handed out. The coupons would donate one dollar to breast cancer research.

The team lost 9-0, but they still held their heads high, recognizing the seniors on the team for senior night.
