The girls swim team took the win over Papillion LaVista this past Tuesday at Home! The Warriors have had a great start to their season now being 2-0 and have had many great finishes.
Sophomore Sadie Rogers had a great meet and played a big part in the warriors win.
“Sadie Rogers stepped up and went lifetime best in a couple of events we didn’t expect her to go lifetime bests in,” coach Andy Rider said. “There are events where she normally doesn’t swim and she stepped up.”
Westside also did a fantastic job in their relays this weekend. Piper Hagen, Natalie Harris, Catelyn Fonda and Elaina Kratky all took part in a relay that has the number one time in the state.
“Lights out swimming. I think we won five relays; the breast stroke relay we did set a record. Lowered it by like 2.5 seconds,” Rider said. “The cool part was that every relay that we did not get first in, we got second.”
One of Kate Stevens and Berkeley Gemar’s favorite events to swim are the relays.
“I usually do sprint freestyle, which I enjoy, but I also love relays with my teammates. It is super fun to get into a race when you are pushing yourself alongside your teammates,” Stevens said.
“My favorite event is probably 100 fly or 100 back, but I also like swimming in relays like the 200 medley,” Gemar said.
Elena Pospishil also likes to swim the relays because of all the positivity around her.
“I think I swam best with my medley relay because the other team members are really positive to be around, which gets me excited when swimming.”
Junior Cora Dietrich placed fist in the 500 yard freestyle with Elena Kratky placing second.
“I think I swam my 500 freestyle the best at the Papio dual. I had solid splits and I got the state qualifying time,” Dietrich said. “I am definitely working on improving my speed in my shorter races going into the next bigger meets.”
The Warriors have one of the biggest meets of the season against Lincoln Southeast this weekend.
“We usually rest going into the meet,” Rider said. “It’s a big meet we get excited for it.”
