Lacrosse senior signs with Ottawa
April 27, 2023
Senior middle Caleb Pass commits to Ottawa where he will play out the rest of his Lacrosse career. Pass is coming off of an ACL injury he suffered during the playoffs in his sophomore year, and it was a long recovery for him, as he missed his junior season.
“I injured that (ACL) my sophomore season,” Pass said. “First round of the playoffs for varsity. It took me about a year to come back from. I couldn’t play my junior year, so I sat out last year. I came back, played a couple games senior year, got a concussion, and now we’re back.”
In his return game from a concussion, Pass had two goals on five shots and an assist. There is a pathway from Westside Lacrosse to Ottawa, with past teammates like Ethan Newmeyer, Jacob Vincintini, and Loren Woita. To Pass, these past teammates have an impact on his commitment.
“Yes and no,” Pass said. “But more yes. Because I know people that are going there, I’ve known how they play and how they work. I can get insight on what Ottawa’s like before going, and also just knowing I’m going to play with people that I know.”
Ottawa’s team has a very bonded culture. Head coach Seth Matlock, who has been coaching for 5 years, is coming off of a KCAC coach of the year award.
“I really like how the team bonds,” Pass said. “The culture, it’s my favorite. I feel like I bonded with the coach really well, and I’ve heard from other people that he’s a great coach. School wise, it’s a super small school, so I get that one-on-one with my teachers and I get to learn from that. I don’t have to be scared to talk to any of the teachers. The facilities are one of the best I’ve been to from schools I visited, so that’s why I picked Ottawa.”
Caleb Pass will continue his senior season with Westside lacrosse on Friday, April 28th against Cobra Lacrosse.
