Davies ready for her final season on the track

April 13, 2023

Westside’s Lademi Davies has started her senior season off on a high note. Davies finished in first place in two separate events at the College of St. Mary indoor meet on Saturday, March 18. Davies won the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.82 seconds. Davies reflected on her victory in the 60 meter dash.

“Preparing for the 60 meter dash is primarily working on your start,” Davies said. “If you have a good first few steps, you’re basically set for the rest of the race. To prepare, we did a lot of technique work in our drive phase (the first part of a race) and the transition out of the drive phase. Then you put it all together into a 60.”

Another event that Davies is known for is her jumps. Davies placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet and 2.25 inches. Davies was excited about her winning performance in the triple jump.

“Winning the triple jump at College of Saint Mary’s was awesome! It was a day to work on technique mostly, but it was a very positive foretelling for the rest of the season,” Davies said.

This is the final track and field season for Davies, who has had a record breaking career. The senior has been running track since she was a young child.

“I started running track when I moved to Nebraska in 2nd grade,” Davies said. “My dad was looking for something fun for us to do, and he was friends with someone who ran a track club, so he put us all in. I haven’t stopped loving it since.”

Davies has been a big aspect on the Warrior track team with a state championship under her belt in the long jump division. The Westside team has meant a lot to her over the past four years. Davies looked back on her favorite part of being a part of Warrior athletics.

“My favorite parts of Westside athletics are the people I get to be on a team with and the quality of the program,” Davies said. “Our coaches focus on the details of technique to get people to their best, and that’s a really beautiful thing to be a part of and see.”

Davies looks forward to her senior season with the Warrior track team, as she reaches for the stars to end her senior season out on good terms.

“I’m really looking forward to testing my limits this season and to having fun with the rest of the team,” Davies said. “These first couple of weeks have made me really optimistic about what the rest of the season is going to bring, as we’re starting to refine our technique and grow closer together. I’m excited to see where that takes us.”

Davies will compete in the Titan Classic today.
