Westside’s Kevin Brown reflects on basketball career
February 21, 2023
Westside’s Kevin Brown Jr. has been a key part to this year’s varsity basketball team. The senior has been a defensive and rebounding anchor. He ranks second on the team in rebounds with 110 and leads the Warriors in blocks with 15. After the end of the regular season, Brown reflected on his time at Westside and what it has meant to him.
“My time at Westside has been special, it has been up and down but mostly good,” Brown said. “Especially because I’ve been going to school with the same people pretty much my whole life.
Brown has been at Westside all four years of his high school career, leveling up each season. His hard work and dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed by the coaches as he is now one of the team’s co-captains. The 6’5” forward is averaging 7.9 points a game and leads the Warriors in free throws at 77 percent from the charity strip. Brown’s goal for the end of the season is the same for just about anyone in the school, to win state.
“My goal is just to get better and for are team to win a state championship,” Brown said. “The way we can get there is by just being discipline and working hard and trying to get better.”
As of late Kevin has dealt with some injuries off the court that have sidelined him for the past few games but he should be available for Westside’s first district tournament game on Saturday, Feb.25. Brown and the Warriors look forward to making a name for themselves in March and solidify themselves as a team to watch in the postseason.
