Westside softball team concludes regular season
September 28, 2022
The Westside varsity softball team is back home on Thursday, Sept. 29 as they battle at the diamond with the Benson Bunnies.
With one more regular season game left the Warriors are heading to Districts, after they honor their seven seniors on the team. Senior Emma Vondra who has been on the varsity softball team for two years is excited for senior night and district play.
“I am looking forward to senior night tonight, and to come out strong in districts and show what we have been working on all season,” Vondra said.
Vondra reflects on when she got her first varsity jersey and about all the bonds she has made.
“My favorite memory is creating new bonds with my teammates and getting my varsity jersey,” Vondra said.
The Warriors came off a disappointing 2021 season and really showed how much they improved on the diamond. Westside’s strong senior leadership and newcomers really showed what they can do this season.
Senior Kerrigan Wonder has played softball all four years of her high school career and has improved her play on the field every year.
“My Westside career has gone really well, I have definitely improved along the four years I have been playing here,” Wonder said.
Wonder remembers her freshman year four years ago, when their team made it to Districts.
“My favorite memory would be Districts my freshman year, where we got runner-up because it was just a great experience with the whole team,” Wonder said.
Senior Addie Leinen reflected back, when Westside faced off against the Bellevue West team.
“Is from the Bell. West game this year during the Westside tournament, “ Leinen said. “The little kids from Westbrook came to cheer us on from the hill. It was a very heartfelt moment and I loved playing for them.”
Senior Jessica Kay reflects on when they were down in their last tournament.
“I think our second tournament and we were down 3-6 last inning of the game with the bases loaded and I hit a walkoff grand slam to end the game and that has to be my absolute favorite memory,” Kay said.
After a 12-0 victory over the Benson Bunnies the Warriors raised their record to 14-10 on the season. The Westside softball team will be back in action, when District tournament play starts up next week.
