Girls golf make strong showing at Elkhorn South Invite
August 30, 2022
The Westside girls golf team displayed a strong showing at the Elkhorn South Invitational, the team placed third overall and having several golfers medal.
Head coach Jered Hellman, explained how he felt with the individual finishes from Carly Bea Brown and Sarah Weiss in the top ten.
“Carly Bea Brown and Sarah Weiss have worked extremely hard on their games, so it was awesome to see them rewarded with an individual medal,” Hellman said. “We were also able to get some girls their first varsity experience. Madie Schlegel didn’t have her best day, but bounced back from a tough front nine. The confidence she gained knowing she can turn a round around will provide valuable to us in the future.”
Hellman also explained how he felt after the team’s overall performance.
“It is always great to win individual medals and improve upon your team’s score from previous tournaments.” Hellman said. “As a coach it is always great to see hard work pay off.”
Brown shot a 75, taking third place at the tournament. The Westside junior discussed her thoughts on the outcome of the tournament.
“I was very happy with my finish, it’s exciting to know that I could’ve done better because I missed a few putts, I should’ve made,” Brown said. “But overall super happy with my performance and can’t wait to beat that score in the future”.
The girls will look to take this momentum with them to the Gretna Invitational on Aug. 30, with hopes of maintaining that top-three finish.
