WHS dance team begins fundraising for the year
Westside’s dance team have already begun fundraising for their program this school year. At the Back to School Barbecue, they had a booth to offer assorted items for sale. The proceeds contributed to their travels to nationals in Orlando.
Sophomore Molly Schleifer said that in past years, the dance team has had to pay for their trip to Nationals out of pocket, but now fundraising would help cover the cost.
“Last year when we went, it was mainly the parents’ funds, so raising money will make it easier to get there and have more gear to support our school when we’re out of state,” Schleifer said.
The Back to School Barbecue was a big success for fundraising for the team. A booth offered items from bracelets to flags, which helped raise some of the money for the dance team’s trip.
“We sold bows, bracelets, fans and flags,” Schliefer said. “The bows and bracelets were meant more for our younger audiences, like the little girls who look up to us, “the fans were because it was hot at the time and the flags were offered to everyone so they could show their support for Westside.”
Katy Moore is the varsity dance team Head Coach. Moore said that the dance team is most looking forward to competing and making memories with each other this year.
“The team is looking forward to competing at the state, regional and national level again this year,” Moore said. “We are also excited to make memories with our team that will last a lifetime,[and] most of all, we are ready to cheer on our amazing athletic programs.”
To support the dance team in the future, students, staff and Westside fans can watch the dance team perform at home varsity games.
“We would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our journey to grow the Westside High School dance team into a competitive program. We appreciate all the donations, time and effort,” Moore said.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Omaha Westside High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
