Softball team relying on strong freshman class before battle with Millard West

September 1, 2022

The Westside varsity softball team will meet up on the diamond against the Millard West Wildcats for the first time in two years.

The 6-4 Warriors have a strong group of underclassmen. Freshman Hadley Hansen is one of five freshmen on the varsity team, Hansen has already hit two home runs this season.

Everyone is held to a very high expectation and we are constantly working, not only improving in the sport but also becoming good people outside of the sport,” she said.

Head coach TJ Eadus expressed that the freshmen on this team are really crushing it this season.

“This is one of the strongest freshmen classes we’ve had,” Eadus said. “They are pushing a lot of boundaries and keeping others on their toes. They add a lot of depth to our team and it is exciting to watch it unfold.”

As the Warriors prepare to go into their 12th game of the season against the Wildcats, Hansen wants to go into the game with energy.

“We want to take their pitchers out of the game with our offense,” she said.

Eadus says the dugout energy is really important.

“Team mindset is not giving other teams more than three outs an inning,” Eadus said. “We have to stay scrappy and fight.”

We have a one game at a time mentality.

“Every game counts for us so we haven’t quite started thinking about Millard West. We have Bellevue West tonight and coming off a great weekend in Blair we’ve put focus to winning tonight first.”

The Warriors will be back home on Tuesday, Sept. 6th as they face off against the Omaha North Vikings.
