Warriors Wrestling Gain Momentum With Third Place Finish

The Westside varsity wrestling team placed third at the Creighton Prep invite on Jan 2. At the end of the night, the Warriors came home with four first-place medals, two-second place, and one-fourth place. Sophomore Logan Edwards expressed that he was happy with the way he ended the night with two wins against ranked wrestlers on his way to a first-place medal in the 106 weight lass.

“It’s a great feeling to see everyone succeeding,” Edwards said. “We didn’t have all of our wrestlers there and still did amazing as a team. I’m excited to see what we will look like once everyone is there.”

The Warriors were also able to get multiple of their wrestlers back for the event allowing more spots in different weight classes. For head coach Micahel Jernigan, the team felt complete and were ready for the event.

“Everyone did a great job of preparing at practice during the holidays and wrestled tough in all of their matches,” Jernigan said.

Westside’s wrestling team has practiced in preparation for Metros coming up later this month. Even with holiday break they still didn’t take the invite lightly. The team has made important changes since last season but they still have room for improvement.

We still have to get some of the guys on board with their physical conditioning and mindset training.  We have to have 100% buy-in to our goals as an individual and as a team,” Jernigan said. “Kids need to trust the process and stay the course and keep getting better every day.”
