#1 Ranked Warriors Set to Face-off Against #3 Ranked Saints
The Westside Warriors will face off Friday, October 15. against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints. The Saints have journeyed from Overland Park, Kansas after their close loss against Lawrence from the previous week. On the other hand, Westside is coming off a dominant 52-3 win against Norfolk last week. Senior Taylor Bruber said that they are going to treat it as if it’s a playoff game and Westside will just have to go in there and take care of business.
“We just have to be able to be on point with everything we do, every play has to have all given,” Bruber said.
Westside right now is sitting at the top as number one in the state, facing off against St.Thomas may end their undefeated streak. For this week’s game they are going to have to execute plays and give it their all to go 8-0. Westside has seen some similarities in St. Thomas Aquinas with other teams, Westside may have the experience to be able to compete.
“Our plan is to play it the same way that we did with Millard North, we just have to be on key with our assignments all around the field,” Bruber said.
Westside has seen a similar offense like this while they were playing Millard North. They have been working on that this week preparing the defense to go against this Flexbone style of offense.
“It’s just going to be a lot of preparation because they execute their offense even better than Millard North. They have different twists to their offense and have some great football players,” said head coach Bret Froendt.
This will be Westside’s biggest test to their undefeated record. This is the first time the Warriors have faced St.Thomas and the first game the Warriors have played against a non-Nebraskan team since 1994. With the playoffs inching near, Froendt sees this game as even more important.
“We need a game of that caliber and we are going to treat it as the first round of the playoffs,” said Froendt.
Friday’s matchup will kick off at 7 p.m. at Phelps field as Warriors look to remain undefeated. You can watch the game live here on Westside Wired and the Warrior Television Youtube Channel.
