Westside Track and Field Teams Host to District Meet

Sophomore Grace Sagert is a member of the varsity girls track and field team.

Westside High School is hosting a NSAA Track and Field District meet on Friday, May 10. The districts were rescheduled from May 8 due to the weather conditions. The track events will take place at 2 p.m. Westside is hosting Bellevue West Senior High School, Elkhorn, Elkhorn South, Millard South, Millard North, Benson High School and Burke High School. This can be the last meet for some of the athletes. The track players have been preparing for this meet in a particular way. This would be preparing yourself before the meets physically but mentally.

“What your mindset is before you get on that track is how you’re going to run that day. I’ve learned confidence is the one thing that will help you win the race. Yes, speed is a factor in being good, but having confidence will get you to be a state finalist,” Green said.

Freshman Chloe Green runs varsity track and gets to participate in her first district competition. Green has improved throughout the season with many factors.

“Like any other sport, practice is what’s going to get you better and better. Listening to what your coaches say is what has really made me improve as an individual.  As a team, we have been doing okay but have a lot to offer with all the hard work we’ve put into this sport together,” Green said.
