Critical Role Kickstarter

On May 4, the cast of Critical Role, a group of voice actors who livestream their Dungeons and Dragons games, announced a Kickstarter campaign to animate an untold story. The story is being freshly written before they start streaming them playing D&D. Entitled The Legend of Vox Machina, it tells a story with the characters from the first campaign they played. The goal was to hit $750k in revenue after 45 days to get one animated special by 2020, but this goal was far surpassed in moments. Within the first hour, the Kickstarter had raised $1 million, and by the end of the first day, they hit $3.5 million. A few of the cast members did a livestream to thank the creators and announced new stretch goals coming in the future.

No more than a few days later, new stretch goals were given. The first stretch goal was at $5 million, which was easily passed through, the next at $7.5 million, $8.8 million. Each of these goals were mainly to make the animation better, prep for one shot campaigns as well as get more episodes added onto the show, for the last one, the campaign with one week left is at over $9.3 Million. The original four episode max run has turned into a full 10 episode season, which after the untold story, will recount the tale of one of the most popular arc from the live show known as the “Briarwood Arc”.

So as the Kickstarter comes to a close, we see the cast continually being impressed and amazed, just as they were on day one with the outstanding support for their project. The fans have been eager and excited for more sneak peaks and looks into the project as it develops over the next year.
