Sophomore Standout Learns from Tough Loss to Top-Ranked Junior Jay
Westside sophomore Cade Haberman wrestled the former number 1 ranked heavyweight in the state at the Creighton Prep and Underwood High School triangular on December 4, at Creighton Prep High School.
At the triangular, Haberman took on the number one heavyweight wrestler in the state. The now number 3 ranked senior, Jack Hasz was nearly taken down by Haberman in a triple overtime thriller.
The Prep senior was able to win 3-2 in the final overtime forcing Haberman off the mat. With 2 seconds left in the match Haberman was unable to regain the lead.
“It was disappointing, but I learned a lot so it was alright,” Haberman said. “You never go into a match thinking you’re going to lose.”
Going into the match Haberman was ranked third and Hasz was ranked first, and as of now Hasz is ranked third and Haberman fourth.
Knowing Haberman can stick with the best in the state, he is looking forward to matchups like this one in the future.
“It gives me a lot of confidence going forward,” Haberman said.
Haberman went on to go 5-0 at Saturday’s Chieftain Dual Classic at Bellevue East. He’ll continue his season when Lincoln Pius X comes to the wrestling room on Tuesday.
