PREVIEW: Westside Boys Set for Matchup with Patriots
After coming off two wins boys Basketball coach Jim Simons has high hopes throughout the rest of the season. So far this season, Westside’s Senior Chase Thompson is averaging the 14th most points in the state and with westside’s experienced squad they are looking to make this year a good one.
“We got started on monday getting ready for Millard South who we play on Friday night. Our big focus this week is our zone offense, they are a team that plays a lot of zone defense and if they can they will play zone defense the whole game, so we spent a lot of time most of the week to get as good as we can with our zone offense,” said Simons.
Simons said the first week was a good start for Westside and that they had some good preparation leading up to their fist couple games.
“We are continuingly trying to get better at our zone offense which was not very good for the first game, so that is a major focus this week,” said Simons. “In our scrimmage we did not rebound very well so we worked very hard last week at rebounding and did a much better job then we had in our first scrimmage.”
Another thing Simons said is that he wanted to continue to work on running there man offense and to be better all around at there defensive principles.
“I thought we have played really hard, we’ve competed as a group and I thought we rebounded in the games better than I thought we would after seeing our team in the scrimmages,” said Simons”
