Freshman Golfer Wins State Championship, Team Fares Well in Norfolk
Kaitlyn Hanna stepped foot on the course as a member of the Westside High School golf team for the first time ever on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Fifty-three days later, she was sharing a gold medal with Marian senior Jalea Culliver.
On a wet Monday afternoon in Norfolk, five Westside golf team members hit the par-72 course at Norfolk Country Club. A few hours later, they were bundled back up in the clubhouse sitting in tenth place as a team with a 104-over-par score of 392. Hanna was a co-state champion with a 76, which was one of her highest scores of the season. Senior Lili Fogland tied for 28th in the field with a 21-over-par 93, freshman Claire Bonnett finished with a 109 and Portia Lenczowski scored a 114. Senior Mia Weisbach rounded out her career with a 143, which was not included in the team’s score.
