Administration Responds to Threatening Note
According to information provided in emails from administrators, earlier today, Sept. 12, a Westside High School staff member found a threatening note written by a student. The Omaha Police Department was contacted by high school administrators and the student was identified and interviewed concerning the note. The student then admitted to writing the note.
“There was a threatening note and we were able to identify quickly who was responsible for it. There was good cooperation between Omaha Police Department and our school. We were able to take care of things quickly and at no time in the situation was there really a threat to students or staff or anyone in the building,” Principal Jay Opperman said.
School Resource Officer Jeff Kilgore echoed what Opperman said.
“We had some threatening notes today that a teacher found, conducted an investigation with the police department and school, and we did identify a suspect within the school,” Kilgore said. “He was arrested and taken downtown. [The note] was found in a classroom.”
Opperman said that at this point in time, while the situation has been addressed, he can’t go into any details about consequences in order to protect the student’s privacy.
