Recap: Goldner Wins, Warriors Shine at Class of the Metro Meet

On Saturday, the Warrior cross country teams started out their 2018 season. Senior Ethan Goldner came into the season with extremely high expectations, and those expectations were quickly met when he came in first at Class of the Metro. Goldner finished the 5k in 17 minutes and 12 seconds, edging out Luke Dickas of Creighton Prep by over 12 seconds.

“I’m really pleased with not just the win, but the way he went about it, when he got out in front he extended the lead rather than being complacent” said head coach Andrew Easton
While Goldner may have won Saturday, he still has his focus on the rest of the year, and the meets to come.

“I was very excited about the result, but that doesn’t change my mindset throughout the season,” Golder said. “Just because I won a race doesn’t mean the season ends here. It is a very long season with lots of races and tough competition so anything can happen” said Goldner.

In addition to Goldner, the Warrior boys had two other finishers in the top twenty. Senior Christian Snawerdt came in at 11th place and finished in 18 minutes and 30 seconds, and senior Jackson McVea finished 19th with a time of 19 minutes and thirty seconds.

While the Warrior boys had a successful day, so did the girls team. The Warriors had two girls place in the top twenty, Mily Loo placed 16th and ran a time of 25 minutes and 37 seconds, while Samantha Adams placed 17th and ran a time of 25 minutes and 51 seconds.

The Westside cross country teams have started their season out fast with numerous top twenty finishes, and will be competing next on August 30th at the Seward Charlie Thorell Invite.
